Have you ever experienced a time in your life where you had to put on a mask and pretend to be who you are not?
Taking our story from 1 Samuel 28:3-8, as a servant of God, king Saul kicked out all the mediums and spirit consultants from Israel. However, due to his previous disobedience, he couldn’t hear God’s voice anymore and fear was instilled in him knowing that he now had to face the Philistine army without God. Thus, he discarded his royal robes and dressed himself as a commoner to visit a medium to call out the spirit of Samuel to help guide him.
I find it so sad that due to his fear, he hid his real identity as a royalty to become something lesser than him. He got rid of the crown God gave him to put on a mask due to his fear, but truth is, all he had to do was seek God’s mercy after he fell short. The mask you’re wearing might not be due to fear like Saul, it might be due to your insecurities, past and much more. It might have also happened that once you made a grave mistake and you feel ashamed to turn back to God and before you realise it, you end up wearing that mask daily, knowing that something in you is dying a little every day. Dearest, it’s time to take off that mask and turn back to the God who is merciful and who can help you overcome that fear. Romans 8:37 tells us that “Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us”.
