As a young Christian girl growing up, seeing so many of my friends and loved ones having, goals, aspirations and finding purpose in life, I always wondered “What’s my purpose?” “What’s my calling?”. Other than the general Christian calling to share the good news till the ends of the earth, what is it only I can do? And in my desperation, I started doing things that weren’t meant for me, trying to copy others and compare my journey to others. Everyone’s journey is different and as wonderfully said in Jeremiah 29:11- “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future”
God has a plan and purpose for each and everyone of us. This verse resonated deep within my spirit and as I continue to study the word and seek advice from my mentor. I learned there’s indeed a guide to finding purpose which I’ll share below:
Look Up
Firstly, look up to God and ask for guidance and what His will for your life is. Matthew 7:7 says “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you”. There is no need for you to search and wonder by yourself, God is our father, and will always listen to us in time of need for He cares for us.
Look Within
It’s starts with you! Before looking at what other people have or what they can do, search within yourself, “What do I love to do?” “What are my strengths/talents and even weaknesses?” “What potential do I carry inside of me?”. Only once you know who you are, can you fulfil purpose. For instance, when Peter healed the man in front of the gate, he said this- “Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee…” Peter knew what he had inside of him and only then did he bring about a change in that moment. Therefore, know who you are and bring about that change, that purpose only you can achieve.
