A JOURNEY THROUGH THE UNKNOWN

Almost everyone has been to a place they’ve never been before or taken a road they’ve never taken before. How do you prepare yourself for an unknown journey? Typically, people use maps, pack too much so they won’t run out of anything on the journey, or ask an acquaintance if they’ve ever been there before for directions. Each of us has our own way of preparing for a journey we don’t know much about.

I remember a time when I had to travel to my friend’s house but she accompanied me throughout the journey and promised to treat me to a meal when we arrived. I kept getting directions from my friend on whether to go left, right, or ahead. All I could think about was the promise of a good meal, since I knew my friend knew the way and wouldn’t abandon me.

Isn’t this story reminiscent of someone? In Genesis 12, God promises Abraham that he will take him to a land he will show him. At the time, Abraham didn’t know how the journey would be like, but just focused on the promise and obeyed because he had the assurance that while the journey was unknown to him, it was not unknown to God, and God would be with him throughout the journey and provide whatever he needed, whether it was directions, provisions, protection, and so on.

What am I trying to say here? The future is unknown to us even as we travel through life. There is no doubt that God knows what we need and will provide it for us. He will fulfil His promise to you, too. It may be stormy, hurricane-like, pothole-filled, and be a challenge along the way, but if you say yes to God and obey, no mountain will seem too high, no valley too deep, nor storm too strong for you to reach His promised land.
