In the midst of a heavy downpour, I was waiting in the university building trying to get a taxi but no taxis were available. A nice security guard saw me and asked, ‘Are you waiting for the rain to stop? ’ and I nodded yes. He then gave me an umbrella so I could get home before it got too dark. And on my way home, as the wind raged, I thought to myself have I properly praised and thanked God for this man’s kindness? Immediately, I started praising God and asking Him to bless this man’s life. Suddenly, as I looked around, I saw a shadow beside and behind me and was startled, then instinctively shifted, only to discover it was me! Due to this distraction, I lost my umbrella and got soaked.

The point here is that sometimes in our lives we get so caught up and distracted by the shadows of our past, that we let go of God’s hand, forget the people who helped us in this new journey and so, all the adversities of life start raining down on us. Remember! God knows all about your murky past, yet he still forgives you. Why can’t you forgive yourself? According to 1 John 1:9 says “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” It’s time to leave the shadows of the past behind you and hold on tightly to God’s hand for He will love, cherish, and cover you from the constant downpour of life.
